Please sir...can't I cross the road?
Well here we are again .....Thursday is my favorite day of the week. I don't really have a reason - other than it's like "Friday Eve".
This morning I had my five (5) mile run. I felt great...it was a bit chilly but I got it done nonetheless.
Most of my run was done on side roads where I took advantage of some sidewalks where the road was narrow. Admittedly, I like running on the side of the road. In the winter, I would find that a lot of sidewalks were not clear, however, the roads were. There has been a whole 'study' done (by folks with PhD's in their names) and I believe they found a lot of folks prefer the shoulder of the road over the sidewalk because of the feel/impact. I get that......I also don't need to dodge a new mom steering their stroller or the dog walkers.... I don't mind the side of the road.
This morning, while I turned my run to a main road...I found myself approaching a corner/road crossing. As I drew closer, I noticed a car speeding up to this corner/turn with their blinker on - they were trying to beat me to the crossing so they didn't have to wait. CLEARLY they don't know my pace :) I was at no risk of being hit, but I felt like it was not conducive of the "sharing the road" mentality that I thought were were taught as young drivers (walkers, cyclists, etc).
But no worries..... I may have uttered a few words to said motorist as they sped by me.....words of wisdom, so to speak.
I always feel good after a run - and even today under the grey, chilly Mid-May morning in New England I felt good. This weekend I will endeavor my second 8-mile run.
Right now, I want to get to a solid week of 10 mile long runs on the weekend. Once I get there, I want to focus a bit more on my speed. I can always speed up a bit once I know I can make the distance.
I will never win.................but I will ALWAYS finish :)
