Looking back a year...and looking forward to this year
This weekend I will run in the Groton Road Race (10K). Looking forward to this run as I did not have a chance to run this last year.
Thinking back over the last year, and looking at what I have in my plans for this year I cannot help but think of the past year as a time of recovery and preparation for what I am about to take on. In February of 2010, I had a reduction mammoplasty (otherwise known as a breast reduction). I had to take it very slow and basically had to start all over again on a walk-to-run program. As frustrating as it was at the time (I had been up to 7-8 miles pre-surgery) I knew that I would get back to where I was and also be pain free so I could accomplish my first goal - a half marathon.
So this weekend's plan include the Groton Road Race and I couldn't be more pleased to be almost back to where I was. Things are fairly busy moving forward - a few local 5K's and then I fly off to Colorado to run in the Bolder Boulder (10K) which should be very cool as my husband is a Colorado native and this is a bit of a homecoming for him.
This year is shaping up to bring it all together for me. My support system has grown exponentially and I have made some great new friends that will help support me on my journey. I have also started to chronicle my story for others...but that's another blog entry for another time...
