Southbound Mama....
As the weekend approaches, I am excited!! Yes - this weekend I will be heading south to Cape Cod. Nice right? Well...I am not going down to move into my summer home nor am I going to lay on the beach. No sir (I wish). This weekend I am heading to the Cape to participate in the 39th running of the Falmouth Road Race - (www.falmouthroadrace.com for those interested). The Falmouth Road Race is a 7-mile run starting in Woods Hole, MA and follows the coast line and ends in Falmouth.
This is my second year running in this race and I am really looking forward to running it with my friend Christy. Now Christy is someone I met about a year ago when she wanted to run her first 5K. We ran a number of times together to help get her ready and she successfully completely her first 5K on Thanksgiving Day 2010. Now she will take on her first Falmouth Road Race....which I am sure will be a challenge but worth it once you get over that finish line. Of course I have not told her about the rolling hills and the killer hill at 6.5 miles (that can be our secret)
So this week has been about getting in some last minute road miles and making sure my nutrition is just about perfect. Mistakes made in the past remind me that no matter how delicious something tastes - sometimes you have to think beyond the lips and whether or not the food is a 'friend or foe'. No pizza, no bacon :)
Hubby and I will take off tomorrow afternoon and with any luck I will have a chance to see some favorites at the Expo (Rick and Dick Hoyt, Bill Rogers, etc). Dinner in Falmouth (pasta is on order) and then we retreat to our cozy hideaway cheap hotel in Bourne (romantic right?). Bring on the Milano cookies and some Yoda, I'm game. (inside joke)
Sunday morning it's an early wake up to catch a Ferry to Woods Hols. Such an awful way to start the day (wink). After that....it's game on.
My mantra is this - "....you can buy the cute running clothes, wear the newest sneakers, have the best music on your iPod and talk about running to everyone who would listen. But eventually you HAVE TO RUN - and that's between you and the road."
Let's go for a run....shall we?
